Meeting Minutes for

Wednesday, January 10, 2007

 

Members in attendance:  Robert S. Young (RY), Chairman; David A. Martin (DM), Vice Chairman; Shirley A. Schofield (SS), Brent Gundlah (BG) Gordon Hughes (GH)

 

RY – Introduced Susan Rich who is interested in one of the open positions on the board.

RY – Received e-mail from Reese Schroeder also stating his interest in a position on the board.

 

General Business

 

DM motion to accept December minutes as presented, seconded by GH

Voted to accept minutes – unanimous

 

38 North Main Street (review project/progress)

 

BG – recused from this discussion (present were the abutters Donna and Lance Kyed)

General Discussion:  regarding changes to the scope of the project and its negative impact on the Kyed’s property.

The homeowner of 38 N. Main Street states that she wrote a letter to the building inspector outlining design changes.

GH - stated that although the current scope of work was approved by the Sharon Building Department, the scope of the project is different from what was presented and approved by this commission.

RY – will contact the building inspector to discuss the changes that were made above and beyond the commission’s original approval.

This matter will be continued at the next meeting.

 

Open Space Committee update

 

RY – SHC received a request from the conservation commission for a position on the open space committee (they would like someone from SHC)

Meetings are once a month for approximately 9 months

BG – stated his interest

RY – will have Peg Arguimbau forward information to BG

 

111 Pond Street

 

RY – recused from discussion

DM – met with Sharon Housing Authority (SHA) regarding possible interest in the property

SHA showed some interest pending further research regarding length of lease, property condition

Habitat for Humanity may also have an interest in leased properties

This matter will be continued at the next meeting.

 

CPA Funds

 

RY – CPC has received a request from the Unitarian Church for partial funding of preservation work (proposed HP Elevator and exterior renovations)

This commission expects that the Unitarian Church will come before the commission with their proposal.

 

 

SHC Request for Proposal

 

RY – to contact Chris Skelly of the MA Historical Commission about getting a draft RFP for Historical Plans and Survey of historic properties in Sharon.

GH – to assist RY in obtaining prospective firms interested in this project

Note:  This RFP is for property built prior to 1940.

 

Avalon Bay

 

SS – recused from discussion

SHC – notified Avalon Bay over one year ago that there is a Historic structure(s) located on the property

RY, DM met with representatives of Avalon Bay regarding the opportunity to view the property.

Avalon Bay agrees to have SHC visit the property, however the current owners have denied access in the past. 

Avalon also stated they are interested in salvaging materials from the structure for re-use on the project.

 

General Discussion

 

RY – reviewed miscellaneous correspondence

RY – brought up the idea of submitting 178 North Main Street for a MHC preservation award, in addition to nominate Bob and Shirley Schofield for “Individual Life Achievement Award”

General Discussion:  Pine Woods and South Walpole Street developments

GH – Doris Annis dedication scheduled for 2/11/07

GH – has reviewed information presented by Irene McCarthy (D. Annis’ daughter)

GH – will speak with BOS about the date and proofs of the signage
